HOW IT WORKS

Solar to Storage: A Comprehensive Guide

Making Your Home Self-Reliant and Safe

The electricity that is powering your home right now is generated at a coal plant hundreds of miles away, then delivered to you by way of a vast system of wires and transmission systems. This type of energy transmission has served us well but it’s now time for a cool change. Solar and Storage is that cool change. When you moved to your home there was only one choice for electricity. Solar has now become a reliable, more economic and safer alternative. Plus, it’s really cool when you look at your monitoring app and see that the glass on your roof is powering your home and perhaps even your EV and at night the solar that filled up your batteries during the day is now powering your home.

SOLAR 101

Solar panels absorb energy both from direct and indirect sunlight…so even when it’s hazy your panels are still collecting power. The power is then sent to the inverter (the brains of the operation) where the DC energy (sunshine) is inverted into usable AC electricity. During daylight hours your solar panels are more than likely powering everything in your home, and actually producing more than you need. That surplus of electricity is sent first to fill up your battery storage system. Once your solar production has topped off your batteries, the excess solar then exports to the grid and powers other homes and businesses that need electricity right at that moment with your clean energy and you get net energy metering credits for that excess solar you help the grid out with. This net energy metering bank can be tracked on your monthly electricity bill.

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) 101

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) serve as indispensable components in the quest for a sustainable energy future. These systems are designed to mitigate the challenges associated with the fluctuating output of renewable energy sources, such as solar power. By storing excess energy during peak solar production periods and releasing it during periods of high demand or low solar input, BESS effectively bridges the gap between energy generation and consumption.

BESS plays a crucial role in enhancing grid stability, enabling a more seamless integration of renewable energy into the existing power infrastructure. Moreover, the ability to store surplus energy ensures a continuous power supply even when sunlight is unavailable or in the event of a grid blackout.

Beyond providing electricity when the sun isn’t out or during a grid outage, BESS helps you financially by discharging stored energy to the grid during peak demand periods and the utility companies pay a premium rate to you for this service during hot summer months. Battery Energy Storage Systems help reduce the strain on the grid, minimizing the need for additional power generation facilities and optimizing your electricity costs.

STS is committed to ensuring that everyone understands the intricacies of Battery Energy Storage Systems. Understanding these dynamics is essential for those seeking to unlock the complete potential of solar energy. As costs continue to decrease and technology progresses, investing in these cutting-edge systems not only aligns with our shared vision of a sustainable future but also presents a strategic opportunity for individuals and businesses alike.
